They are switching devices that open, carry and cut off the currents in normal circuit conditions and make remote command. Contactors are produced according to international IEC 60947-4-1 standards and tested. Contactors cannot be used alone as a circuit protection element but, they protect the circuit against the over load currents together with thermic relays.
